The umpire in Monday’s Giants-Dodgers game appeared to take issue with the glove of Los Angeles pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto after the end of the first inning.
Umpires met with Yamamoto and other Dodgers staffers heading into the top of the second. The Giants broadcast noted seeing a foreign white substance on the player’s blue glove. After an inaudible discussion, the Japanese pitcher went into the locker room, appearing frustrated.
It’s not clear what the issue was, but it was apparently enough to warrant the umpire’s attention.
Since 2021, Major League Baseball has taken a hard stance against pitchers using foreign substances on the mound.
