Rejoice, San Francisco Giants fans. For yesterday was a glorious, glorious day. Not only did the Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-4, but Ángel Hernández retired. Could you imagine anything better?
It wasn’t all peaches and roses though, as first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr., left Monday’s game after injuring his hamstring on a double. The Giants announced that Wade has a hamstring strain and will have an MRI today, but Bob Melvin was open about how a trip to the Injured List is very much expected. It will be interesting to see what the Giants do in Wade’s absence: if they want an actual first baseman, their options are to call up David Villar (who isn’t playing well), add Trenton Brooks (who would need a spot on the 40-man roster), or seek someone from outside (Brandon Belt, anyone?
