SAN FRANCISCO — A 21-year drought in the Giants’ farm system came to an end on Thursday in Sacramento.
No Giants’ Triple-A affiliate had won a division title since the Fresno Grizzlies came in first place in 1998 until the Sacramento River Cats clinched a Pacific Coast League Pacific North Division crown against the Reno Aces with a 10-2 victory.
“To win down there and go to the playoffs, I’ve said this so many times but it’s such a valuable experience,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.
Giants prospect Chris Shaw willed the team to a win over the Reno Aces with three home runs and seven RBIs on the finest night of his professional career.
