Two baseballs sit drying on plates underneath a TV in the living room of 92-year-old Margaret Edlund’s Oakland Hills home.
They’re not just any two balls, though.
Last week, they came screaming off the bat of San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski before splashing into the waters of Oracle Park’s McCovey Cove, where they were scooped up by Margaret’s son, Dave Edlund.
Or, as he’s known to scores of Giants fans: McCovey Cove Dave.
Of the 83 ‘splash hits’ that have dunked into the Cove, Edlund has caught 42 (including Yaz’s walk-off in SF’s 7-6 win against the Padres last Wednesday).
