The one condition Dusty Baker wanted met before he returned to the Giants

One of the first things Dusty Baker made clear during his first interview since returning to the Giants was this: He wanted manager Bruce Bochy’s OK before taking the job.

“I’m not looking for anything,” Baker told ABC 7’s Mike Shumann before Monday night’s Bay Bridge Series exhibition game. “The first thing I did (was) ask Brian (Sabean) to get Bruce’s blessings. I don’t want to be a threat to anybody.”

Baker was hired as a special adviser to Giants CEO Larry Baer and executive vice president Brian Sabean. It was a transaction dripping with feel-good, given the wonderful work Baker did as manager of the team from 1993-2002 and the regrettable manner in which he and the franchise parted ways.
