CHICAGO – To borrow a page out of Hunter Pence’s book of daily affirmations, the Giants might have found a tiny victory amid Thursday’s 5-4 loss at Wrigley Field.
Left-hander Josh Osich appeared for the first time since July 23, entered with a one-run lead, faced the heart of the Cubs lineup and tossed a scoreless fifth inning. He got ground outs from Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist before striking out Jason Heyward.

Osich’s hardest two-seam fastball was 98.7 mph. And yes, that was a two-seamer.
In other words, the Giants might have a significant bullpen weapon back for the stretch drive.
