The Giants’ weakest defensive link from 2016 is gone. That is, the weakest defensive link according to my eyeballs. Angel Pagan took weird routes, his speed wasn’t what it used to be, and his arm was dreadful. He’ll be replaced with a younger outfielder, and no matter who wins the job, they should be a defensive improvement. Considering that the Giants were one of baseball’s best defensive teams last year, this should suggest that a fine defensive team can only go up.
This is not the case. According to FanGraphs, the Giants are projected to be one of baseball’s best teams again.
