SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants need to make some hay on this six-game homestand if they are to realistically rejoin the race for the second wild card spot in the National League.
It started off on a sour note, as the Giants left 11 runners on base in a 6-4 loss to the equally desperate Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.
The sixth inning was especially frustrating.
On a sharply hit ball by Brandon Crawford, Abiatal Avelino, starting at second base, ran through the stop sign of Giants’ third base coach Ron Wotus and headed for home.
