SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giants catcher Buster Posey was scratched from Wednesdsay night's lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a stiff neck.
This would have been Posey's third appearance of the spring. He went 0-for-3 in his first two games.
Posey has been planning on leaving the Giants around the end of this week, along with shortstop Brandon Crawford, to participate for the United States in the World Baseball Classic.
Tim Federowicz, a former Dodger, replaced Posey and was installed in the ninth spot in the batting order. San Franciscso's fourth through ninth hitters each moved up a notch to compensate for the absence of Posey, who was slated to bat third.
