The Chicago Cubs on Friday agreed to terms with veteran right-hander John Lackey on a two-year, $32-million contract, sources said, filling their rotation behind Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester.
Lackey, 37, had 13 wins and a 2.77 ERA over 33 starts and 218 innings for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015, the first time he’d breached 200 innings since 2010.
Since sitting out the 2012 season because of Tommy John surgery, Lackey is 37-33 with a 3.35 ERA in 93 starts, the past 43 for the Cardinals, who acquired Lackey at the trading deadline two summers ago.
