SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- It's no surprise that Trevor Cahill signed a minor league deal with the Giants on Tuesday. If anything, it's a surprise that Cahill didn't do this months ago.
The right-hander came up with Farhan Zaidi's A's and spent last season pitching out of the bullpen for Andrew Bailey's Angels. Cahill was reunited with those two Tuesday, agreeing to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, a source told NBC Sports Bay Area. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was the first to report the deal.
Cahill, 31, joins an organization that doesn't necessarily have a starting pitching need, but the Giants plan to be creative while putting together their 13-man staff and Cahill could fit what they're looking for.
