Some perspective on Giants’ bullpen woes

No matter how you slice it, you cannot sugarcoat 17 blown saves (tied for the worst in the majors), or a 40 percent blown-save rate that ranks 13th of 15 NL teams.

The bullpen stands as the No. 1 element that the Giants need to fix, internally and externally.

Because perspective is more useful than hysteria, some facts:

•A blown save occurs when a reliever gives up a lead from the sixth inning on. The Giants play more close games than most. Thirty of the Giants’ 87 games — more than a third — have been settled by one run.
