When Grant McCray laid the barrel of the bat out on the second pitch of his 2nd inning at-bat against Max Fried, the decision gave both Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow pause. Old heads, for sure, often bordering on lovably cantankerous, but they had a point. There are some rules that shouldn’t be broken, some strategies not questioned: bunting with the bases loaded is one of those. It’s rarely, if ever, a good idea. A squeeze play without two other runners on base works because it means an inevitable play at home requires a tag.
