The San Francisco Giants made a somewhat surprising move on Friday before starting their three-game series against the New York Mets. The Giants re-united with an old friend, signing left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz to a one-year Major League deal.
In corresponding moves to make space on both the active roster and 40-man roster, the Giants optioned right-handed pitcher Mason Black to AAA Sacramento and designated catcher Jakson Reetz for assignment.
The Giants first signed Pomeranz for the 2019 season, and at the deadline sent him and AAA reliever Ray Black to the Milwaukee Brewers for Mauricio Dubón, in what certainly was a slick trade.
