SF Giants trade for a prospect, sign a starter and acquire an infielder in flurry of moves

SAN DIEGO — Free agency has been a much hotter topic than the trade market at this year’s Winter Meetings, but the San Francisco Giants have been involved in both aspects of the player acquisition process on Tuesday.

The Giants and Angels lined up on a trade on Tuesday that will send infielder Zack Cozart and 2019 first round draft choice Will Wilson to San Francisco. The Athletic first reported the deal.

The Giants announced they’ll send the Angels a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Tuesday’s trade is essentially an opportunity for the Giants to use their payroll flexibility to purchase young talent as Wilson, a highly touted shortstop, is the player the organization covets.
