With the MLB trade deadline closing in at 3 p.m. Pacific, the Giants finally made a deal. No, Carlos Rodon and Joc Pederson aren't headed out of town (yet). And no, it's not a defensive upgrade.
Instead, Darin Ruf is headed to the Mets for infielder and designated hitter J.D. Davis, according to multiple reports. The Mets sweetened the pot for Ruf, adding in Thomas Szapucki and two minor league pitchers.
Nick Zwack and Carson Seymour are A-level pitchers going with JD Davis and Thomas Szapucki for Darin Ruf.

Ruf was stellar in the shortened 2020 season and the magical 2021 campaign for the Giants, but came back down to Earth this year, with an OPS+ of 98, just a hair below league average.
