The San Francisco Giants say they have completed the hiring process for one of the largest (and youngest) coaching staffs in the major leagues.
The club announced Thursday that Alyssa Nakken and Mark Hallberg will round out a 13-person staff as “major league assistant coaches” under first-year manager Gabe Kapler.

The hiring of Nakken, a former Sacramento State softball player, is historic as she will be the first female coach in Giants history and appears to be the first full-time female coach in the majors. It’s unlikely Hallberg or Nakken will be in uniform during games as MLB teams are limited to seven coaches in the dugout, but in a statement released Thursday, Kapler said the duo “will focus on fostering a clubhouse culture that promotes high performance through, among other attributes, a deep sense of collaboration and team.
