MESA, Ariz. -- Only hours after the Giants delivered some very encouraging news on Matt Cain that sets the stage for his first spring training start on Friday, they received a frightful scare involving high-priced free agent pitcher Johnny Cueto.
On Cueto's first pitch of the game against the A's on Monday night, leadoff man Billy Burns hit a shot back up the middle that caromed off the pitcher's forehead and trickled into the outfield for a double. Cueto went down on all fours momentarily as the medical staff and manager Bruce Bochy raced out to check on the veteran right-hander.
