If I had told you before the season that San Francisco Giants right-handed pitcher Reyes Moronta would be a free agent in October, you probably would not have believed me. But that’s where we are. On Thursday, Moronta — as well as outfielder Mike Tauchman — elected for free agency, which became an option when the Giants designated them for assignment and reassigned them to AAA Sacramento.
There were high hopes for Moronta, who was recovering from a severe arm injury, when the season began. He made the Opening Day roster, but was injured after pitching just four innings.
