More From San Francisco Giants
Between injuries to key players — and injuries to those key players’ replacements — as well as the simple exhaustion from last year that logically comes with tacking an extra month onto the already laborious baseball season, the fact that the Giants were in it at all this late in the season is a truly remarkable testament to their grit, determination, talent, and depth as a team.
While they looked like a potentially playoff bound team at the beginning of the season, they put together a shaky August record of 13-16 and that, combined with a yearlong record of 18-27 in one-run games, as well as a myriad of injuries contributed to their inability to truly challenge down the stretch.
