Samardzija powers Statcast-record homer

DENVER -- Giants right-hander Jeff Samardzija turned into a slugger Friday night, bashing a fifth-inning home run at Coors Field that traveled a projected 446 feet, the longest homer by a pitcher in the Statcast™ era.

Samardzija's two-out drive cleared the right-center-field barrier adjacent to the Giants' bullpen and scored Austin Slater ahead of him to give the Giants a temporary 4-1 lead.

It was Samardzija's third career home run and also his longest. His last homer, which he delivered as a member of the Cubs, traveled 440 feet at Wrigley Field on May 15, 2013, against Colorado.
