One day after the Sacramento River Cats used sexist tropes in a video promoting their new Gold Diggers alternate identity, the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A team said it will not use the new identity at all.
In a statement emailed to SFGATE, the River Cats said, “Our recent marketing campaign for an alternative identity clearly missed the mark. Our intention was to creatively reference the rich history of Sacramento and gold country, but our approach was wrong, and we are sorry for the mistake. We will no longer be using this identity.”
The team had said it was planning to wear the Gold Diggers uniforms five times in the 2025 season, with the first game coming on April 19.
