Ryan Vogelsong won't be returning to the Giants next season. The right-hander signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.
Vogelsong, 38, had spent the last five seasons with the Giants, but he had a difficult year in 2015, going 9-11 with a 4.67 ERA in 33 games, including 22 starts. He hadn't really pitched well since 2012, going 14-9 to help lead the Giants to their second of three World Series championships. The Giants weren't expected to bring back Vogelsong next season after signing free-agent pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Johnny Cueto. The team has filled out its rotation and has Chris Heston as a backup.
