DENVER — The Giants welcomed one new teammate and one old friend to the visitor’s clubhouse at Coors Field on Friday.
Scooter Gennett, acquired in a trade with the Reds on Wednesday, will bat sixth and play second base in his Giants debut against the Rockies. Steven Duggar, promoted after an impressive stint in Triple-A Sacramento, will bat seventh and play center field for the series opener at Coors Field.
Their arrivals will lead to a change in roles for several players, but no player will have his job impacted quite like Joe Panik. The veteran infielder took over as the Giants’ starting second baseman as a rookie en route to a 2014 World Series title and has held the title ever since.
