The Boston Red Sox claimed right-handed reliever Jean Machi off waivers after he was designated by assignment by the Giants last week, the team announced on Tuesday.

Machi, 33, struggled this year after two strong seasons with San Francisco. He was 1-0 with a 5.14 ERA in 33 games for the Giants this year after going 10-2 with a 2.49 ERA over 122 games in 2013 and 2014.
