Reports: Giants are losing All-Star pitcher Kevin Gausman to the Blue Jays

The Giants signed Gausman to a second consecutive one-year contract before the 2021 season, the latter being a qualifying offer for $18.9 million. He delivered with his best season – a 2.81 ERA in 191 innings with a 14-6 record – while being named to his first All-Star Game.

Gausman will be 31 on Opening Day, which could be why the Giants didn’t sign him to a long-term deal. The Jays also needed a front-line pitcher and they had just lost shortstop Marcus Semien, who reportedly agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract with Texas.
