The New York Yankees reportedly interviewed San Francisco Giants hitting coach Hensley “Bam Bam” Meulens.
Meulens met with the Yankees on Thursday, according to multiple reports, as New York searches for a manager after firing Joe Girardi following the team’s exit from the American League Championship Series.
“I’m ready to take on the challenge,” Meulens told Mike Mazzeo of the New York Daily News. “I never envisioned this. But now that the spot is open and I’m ready to manage, of course this is a spot I want to come back to.”
Mazzeo called Meulens “an intriguing darkhorse candidate” partly because of the former Yankees player’s ties to New York.
