The Giants stocked their system with a seven-year MLB veteran on Thursday, reportedly reaching a deal with longtime Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera.
An All-Star in 2013, Cabrera has agreed to a minor league contract with the Giants, according to a CBSSports.com report.
Cabrera, 28, played 29 games for the Orioles this season on a one-year, $2.4 million contract. He was released in June after hitting .208 with a .250 on-base percentage.
Previously, he was non-tendered by the Padres following the 2014 season.
Cabrera has had his off-the-field issues. He received a 50-game suspension in 2013 for his involvement in MLB's Biogenesis investigation and was arrested in 2014 on suspicion of driving under the influence.
