Mets manager Terry Collins has been rewarded with a two-year contract through 2017 after guiding the team to the World Series, a person familiar with the deal said Tuesday.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because there had been no official announcement.
The Mets lost the World Series to the Royals in Game 5 on Sunday night.
The Mets held a club option on Collins for 2016, and instead gave him a longer deal. He has managed the Mets for five seasons.
Collins is the oldest manager in the majors at 66 — almost three weeks older than new Washington manager Dusty Baker.
