SAN FRANCISCO — The 2020 season was destined to be unpredictable, but a week ago, it felt relatively safe to call the San Francisco Giants one of the worst teams in baseball.
Closer Trevor Gott had blown three consecutive ninth-inning leads, the club was suffering through a five-game losing streak and the Giants’ defense was easily the shakiest in the National League.
