Cincinnati Reds infielder Scooter Gennett was traded to the Giants on Wednesday morning, according to multiple reports. The Reds will reportedly receive a player to be named later.
Gennett, who will be a free agent at the end of the 2019 season, has struggled with injuries this year, hitting .212 with a .232 on-base percentage and .258 slugging percentage in just 69 plate appearances. Gennett's breakout season came in 2017, when the undersized infielder launched 27 homers in just 497 plate appearances. He followed up his 2017 season with a strong 2018, hitting .310/.357/.490 while playing an above-average second base.
