Late Sunday night, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported the Red Sox relieved Dave Dombrowski of his duties. Dombrowski had served as Boston’s president of baseball operations for the last four seasons and was under contract through 2020. Four years into his tenure, the Red Sox find themselves 17.5 games back of the Yankees in the AL East and 8 games back of a wild card. With their payroll implications now, it’s unlikely that the Red Sox will be able to retain both Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mookie Betts. After the trades Dombrowski made, Boston’s farm system ranks dead last in MLB.
