Back in the days when the most idyllic spot for a baseball fan was next to a radio, Hank Greenwald was always there for Giants fans, painting a visual picture while using equal parts humor and storytelling.
Those magical two-hour journeys endeared Greenwald to Bay Area fans for nearly 20 years. It’s why many felt as though they’d lost a family member when they heard the 83-year-old Greenwald died in a San Francisco hospital on Monday.
While he also called games for the Warriors and A’s, and even New York Yankees games for a couple of seasons, Greenwald’s legacy was tinged in orange and black.
