Q&A with Curt Young: Replacing Dave Righetti and molding the Giants’ 2018 staff

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.–Pitching coach Curt Young is no stranger to the Bay Area baseball scene, having spent 13 of the last 14 seasons working for the Oakland A’s.

Young’s run on the other side of the Bay Bridge came to an end when he was fired last June, but he didn’t have to look far for his next opportunity. After Giants’ pitching coach Dave Righetti was reassigned this offseason, the franchise hired Young to take over a staff that lost its two top starters, Madison Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto, as well as closer Mark Melancon for extended stretches due to injuries last season.
