SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants continued to struggle at the plate Sunday, losing 3-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays at Oracle Park and falling to 3-7.
Starter Yonny Charinos (2-0) was one of five Tampa Bay pitchers who combined for a shutout, throwing the first five innings, with Adam Kolarek, Chaz Roe, Diego Castillo and Jose Alvarado finishing it out for his fourth save as the Rays improved to 7-3.
The Giants had just five hits, struck out 12 times and loud outs were few and far between. In the ninth, a Yangervis Solarte single and a walk to Brandon Belt brought Brandon Crawford to the plate, but Crawford’s ground ball to second ended the game.
