Stop me if you've heard this before: A popular MLB projection system has the Giants as a thoroughly mediocre team.
Baseball Prospectus released its 2023 PECOTA projections Wednesday morning, and they have the Giants at a familiar place with 81.9 wins.
The Giants were the perfect definition of mediocrity last year, finishing at 81-81. It was a crash back down to earth after 2021's stunning 107-win campaign.
That 2021 team outperformed the broadly accurate projection systems by more than any other squad since the advent of the public projections.
