NEW YORK -- The hip issues that have hampered Buster Posey all season will likely require surgery, which would end the six-time All-Star's season early, a club official confirmed to MLB.com on Tuesday.
Though there are no immediate plans for surgery, the Giants have discussed a possible timetable for Posey to undergo an operation and be ready for the start of next season. Doing so would require him to miss at least a part of this season, which the club is considering.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Posey, who caught 13 innings Monday against the Mets but did not play Tuesday, was expected back in the lineup Wednesday.
