Piazza, Griffey Jr elected into Hall of Fame

Major League Baseball announced its 2016 Hall of Fame class on Wednesday, building on a special group of all-timers.

Catcher Mike Piazza and outfield Ken Griffey Jr. were the only two players to be admitted into Cooperstown this year.

Piazza, a 12-time All-Star, hit 427 home runs, maintained a .308 average, and won 10 Silver Slugger awards.

In his fourth year on the Baseball Writers' Association of America ballot, Piazza was named on 365 ballots (83.0 percent).

Piazza's six seasons of 30 HR and 100 RBI is the most in MLB history by a catcher.
