The San Francisco Giants were in Chicago playing the Cubs on Tuesday night. But when the news that Willie Mays had died at 93 years old came out during the middle of the game, Giants fans flocked to Oracle Park and the statue of the franchise legend.
Dozens of flower bouquets were left on the base of the Mays statue that’s located at the corner of Third and King Streets in downtown, with the first placed by a fan sometime around 6:30 p.m. – less than 45 minutes after the Giants announced Mays’ passing.
