SAN FRANCISCO -- Hunter Pence isn't exactly easing into retirement. That prompts an inevitable thought: What if Pence defies expectations and doesn't quit baseball?
Pence certainly looked as if he had much more baseball left in his 35-year-old body on Tuesday night as the Giants ended their five-game losing streak by outlasting the Padres in 12 innings, 5-4, at AT&T Park. He scored three runs, clobbered his fourth homer of the season and raced home from first base to score a run in the seventh.
Pence had nothing to do with settling the outcome, however.
