Pence, Panik delayed in rehab by rainout

BOSTON -- The rainout that the Giants' Sacramento affiliate endured Monday at New Orleans disrupted the recovery schedules for right fielder Hunter Pence and second baseman Joe Panik, who have begun their injury rehabilitation stints with the Triple-A outpost.

"I guess you could say it's a minor setback," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday.

Bochy said the Giants want Panik (concussion) to play at least three games in the Minors, with ascending workloads of five, seven and nine innings, before he'll be considered for reinstatement from the disabled list. Bochy indicated Panik, who started the first game of Sacramento's doubleheader Tuesday at New Orleans, would have to progress quickly to rejoin the Giants in time for this weekend's series against the Yankees.
