SAN FRANCISCO — For the second straight year, Giants outfielder Steven Duggar has sustained a season-ending injury.
Duggar sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder making a diving catch in Wednesday’s loss to the Nationals and was placed on the injured list on Thursday. Manager Bruce Bochy was optimistic that Duggar might be able to return to the field in September, but the Giants elected to transfer the outfielder to the 60-day injured list on Friday which brings an end to his season.
Shifting Duggar to the 60-day injured list from the 10-day injured list cleared a 40-man roster spot for reliever Travis Bergen, who was activated ahead of Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
