Vida Blue, who joined the Giants in a startling spring training trade, is departing the team the same way.
Blue, who has been San Francisco’s ace since he was acquired from the A’s in a 7-for-1 trade in 1978, was unceremoniously traded to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for pitchers Craig Chamberlain, Atlee Hammaker, Renie Martin, and infielder Brad Wellman on March 30, 1982, 38 years ago.
