SAN FRANCISCO — It took the San Francisco Giants seven games at Pacific Bell Park to get the ending right. When they did, it read like a screenwriter’s script for a team’s first victory in its new ballpark.
Error 0:
After tying a major-league record with six increasingly frustrating losses in their new park, the Giants finally squeezed out a victory at Pac Bell by beating Montreal, 2-1, before a sellout crowd of 40,930.
It all enfolded in perfect dramatic symmetry for the Giants:
Starter Kirk Rueter threw seven superb innings of one-run ball to match Montreal’s Javier Vazquez.
