SAN FRANCISCO — Tell today’s starting pitchers there was a time when strikes were balls, fair was foul and safe was out, and those things will sound just as plausible as what took place 50 years ago.
On July 2, 1963, Juan Marichal pitched a 16-inning shutout against the Milwaukee Braves, outdueling Warren Spahn, who pitched 151/. .
