Nick Hundley is this year’s winner of the Willie Mac Award, which is given annually to the Giants’ most inspirational player.
In one of the worst seasons in franchise history, Hundley has been a positive voice as the backup catcher to Buster Posey. Pitchers liked throwing to him, and teammates liked hanging with him.
After Hundley hit a walk-off homer on Sept. 2, pitcher Jeff Samardzija called Hundley “an amazing teammate, one of the best I ever had. He brings emotion every day to the team, playing or not.”
Manager Bruce Bochy said Hundley has been “a pleasure to have around the club.
