Joe Panik is heading home.
The former San Francisco Giants second baseman has reportedly signed a contract with the Mets that will allow him to return to his home state of New York. ESPN and several other outlets reported the two sides have agreed to a deal.
The Yonkers native was designated for assignment by the Giants on Tuesday, bringing an abrupt end to a tenure that included an All-Star appearance, a Gold Glove honor and a World Series title.
Panik is likely to take over as the Mets starting second baseman after Robinson Cano tore his hamstring in a game against the Pirates over the weekend.
