SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.–Over the past three seasons, Nick Vincent has been a durable force in the Seattle Mariners bullpen, posting a 3.62 ERA while averaging 63 appearances per year.
Yet this offseason, Vincent couldn’t find a job.
“It’s a crazy free agent market right now and I hope it gets better in the future just for the future players,” Vincent said. “It’s not getting any better right now and it’s bad to be a part of it but it is what it is.”
Ten days after pitchers and catchers reported to camp, Vincent gave up looking for a major league contract and told the Giants he was ready to start pitching.
