Anthony Rendon is headed back to the disabled list after playing just 18 games for the Nationals -- this time with a strained left quadriceps muscle -- and Washington is calling up former Giants infielder Emmanuel Burriss from Triple-A Syracuse as the corresponding move.
Burriss, 30, is a native of Washington, D.C. and attended Woodrow Wilson High School. A switch-hitter who last appeared in the majors with the San Francisco Giants in 2012, Burriss has a .243 career average over 282 total MLB games.
Burriss joins the Nats after hitting .278 in 62 games with Triple-A Syracuse.
