Today is the 30th anniversary of the time the Giants demolishing the St. Louis Cardinals 21-2 at Candlestick Park. 38-year-old Chris Speier started that day to give Robby Thompson a day off and wound up hitting for the cycle.
I remember this game pretty well because it was, for some reason, a game I had recorded on my cassette player, and I distinctly remember not being able to comprehend that a professional team had scored 21 runs in a game.
